
The ASK Workshop
This online workshop is for professionals working with children and young people aged 5-14 years old. The ASK Workshop is completed across two days plus reading completed prior to the live workshop.
The ASK Workshop online challenges commonly held notions about children's capacity to consider suicide.
In 2022, suicide was the second leading cause of child death in Australian children aged 5 -17 years.
Participants learn:
How to talk about death with children
How to talk about suicide with children
Developmentally appropriate strategies and tools to identify young children at risk of suicide
How to quickly gather and organise details needed to assess risk
How to explore and consider protective factors to inform safety planning
To consider common challenges when working with parents and possible solutions
Important Course Information:
Pre-Workshop reading is required to be completed prior to the workshop to be permitted access to the live stream
Your live stream link and pre-reading will be emailed to you in the days prior to the training
The live stream will go from 8:30am to approximately 1:30pm both days
Course Structure
Participants learn using case studies, guided simulations, discussion and practice using an assessment tool.
Following the course
Participants will have an increased understanding and alertness to the fact that children can be at risk of suicide. They will know what risk factors to look out for and feel confident approaching the subject of death and suicide with a child. Participants receive a risk assessment tool, a quick reference tool and a certificate.
Course length: 9 hours – delivered across two live streams over two consecutive days (4.5 hours per day) plus 1-2 hours of self-paced pre-workshop reading

Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention is a 2-day workshop designed for professionals and paraprofessionals in the human services whose roles bring them into regular contact with people at risk of suicide.
This workshop aims to help participants:
• Gain an understanding of the problem of suicide.
• Identify suicide risk.
• Provide a framework for risk assessment and intervention.
• Develop appropriate intervention skills.
• Understand the limits to confidentiality.
• Understand the importance of consultation.
• Gain an understanding of self-harming behaviour.
• Gain an understanding of the link between mental disorders and suicidal behaviours.
• Understand the importance of postvention.
Please note: Full attendance on both days is required for course completion.
We acknowledge that attending a workshop that discusses suicide may bring up difficult and distressing emotions for people, especially for those who have been personally or professionally impacted by suicide. On behalf of the Bridgetown Greenbushes Suicide Prevention Network, Inc. we are pleased to give notice of our upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) and call for nominations.

Time: 1.00pm to 2.00pm
Location: BYA, The Convent, Steere Street, Bridgetown or via Teams.
Please note: Participants can experience trouble joining online meetings from time to time. We kindly ask that you log in 10 minutes early to allow time to resolve any IT issues before the meeting begins.
The AGM is an important opportunity for members to hear about the past year’s achievements and future direction, review the financial report, and participate in the election of the committee for the coming year.

LivingWorks Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is for anyone aged 16 or older, regardless of prior experience or training, who are interested in becoming an ASIST-trained caregiver. Over the two-day course, you will develop the comfort, knowledge, and skills to confidently and competently intervene to support someone at risk of suicide.
Delivered in five sections, participants will progressively learn the skills to identify risk, to connect sensitively with someone experiencing suicidal thoughts and/or behaviours, and to effectively support them to keep safe, utilising your own skills as well as available resources and services.
This training is being offered at a reduced cost via the St John of God Social Outreach, Suicide Prevention Coordinators program.

LivingWorks safeTALK - Boyup Brook
safeTALK is a half-day suicide alertness workshop that prepares anyone over the age of 15 to become a suicide alert helper.
